City of Westminster Courts, Marylebone Road (spec: Green Roof/Hot Melt)

In early 2011 Galliford Try appointed Rock to deliver waterproofing for two new courthouse buildings in Chelmsford and Colchester. Now it's "all rise" again as Rock embarks on a further project for Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunal Service. On this occasion the project is the new City of Westminster courts, designed by the Hurd Rolland Partnership, one of the leading national architecture practices working in the law and order sector.

Located in the Portman Estate Conservation Area, the new building was enabled through the demolition of the former magistrates courts and retention of the original Georgian County Court building - London's oldest functioning law court. Main contractor Laing O'Rourke were fully aware of Rock's experience in working within historically sensitive sites, which demands a high degree of project management skill.

Rock was contracted to deliver not only our proven hot melt waterproofing system, but also a green roof to further the building's sustainability credentials. Our green roof, along with an advanced cooling/heating system which utilises recycled water, has helped the City of Westminster Courts achieve a BREEAM rating of 'excellent'.
