MediaCityUK, Salford (spec: Mastic Asphalt)
Rock enjoys many long-term partnerships with leading developers and construction companies. Take, for instance, Peel Holdings and Bovis Lend Lease. Having already collaborated with both on Gloucester Quays, a major regeneration project for the city, we found ourselves working together again on an entirely different project serving one of the world's best-known corporations - the BBC.
In a drive to make itself less London-centric, the Beeb is moving a number of its programme-making departments – including BBC Children's, BBC Sport and BBC Radio Five Live - to the new £500m MediaCityUK located in Salford, Greater Manchester. Other media-related companies are set to follow suit. Salford City Council has forecast that the development should help create up to 10,000 jobs and add £1bn to the regional economy over five years.
A project such as MediaCityUK, with its highly technical studio facilities, demands the very best in waterproofing technology, which is why Bovis requested that Rock become involved.
