Essex Magistrates Courts (Spec: Hot Melt)

At Rock we are always keen to demonstrate the advantages that our products and services can offer practically any market sector. Schemes involving custodial and judicial buildings are less common than some others, so we welcomed the opportunity presented by main contractor Galliford Try to work on a £23m contract for two new courthouse buildings in Chelmsford and Colchester.

The new buildings aim to improve the facilities for the majority of court users, including victims and witnesses, and to provide suitable accommodation for the provision of courts services. The Chelmsford courthouse will include five magistrates' courtrooms and one Crown Court room, while the Colchester courthouse will comprise five magistrates' courtrooms.

Galliford Try has appointed Rock to waterproof both buildings, as well as the car parks which serve them. In each case we employed our hot melt system, a fully bonded application which adheres seamlessly with no possibility of water tracking beneath the membrane. It is envisaged that construction of the new courthouses will be complete by the end of 2011.
